Welcome friends to the blog today as we’re looking at an essential part to the planning portion of what goes into a wedding day, the floorplan! Floorplans are the foundation for which all details and execution comes from. They allow for the design of your dreamy wedding to come to life as it is a blueprint for your planner and helpers to follow when it comes to setting up the venue space so your vision can come to life!
WHAT IS THIS FOR?
On your wedding day, there is already so much to account for, we don’t want you to be stressed for whatever reason, that is why utilizing the resource of crafting a floorplan can be such an amazing tool. Oftentimes if you’ve chosen to incorporate a planner in the planning process or the day of, they will be in charge of coordinating the space to help make your dreams into reality. A floorplan is not only a great tool, but it helps to clarify where all tables, decorations, and other pieces go in a space so it can be clearly articulated the day of. This is the foundation for which can be built on, which will be expanded through the considerations and elements we will highlight below!
GUEST COUNT AND VENUE
Perhaps guest count and the chosen venue are two of the fundamental elements of a wedding which impact the decisions when creating a floorplan. A wedding size of fifty people will look a lot different than a wedding of two hundred people. The floorplan is dependent on guest count for multiple reasons, as it determines the size and amount of tables, how big the dance floor needs to be, and other things like how many chairs to incorporate into the ceremony space. Another key player in determining floorplan arrangements is the wedding venue! This is technically the real foundation we’re building off of, but the floorplan is a representation of what we’re working with and how organized we can be! Some venues will be more cookie cutter with having different rooms, while others tend to be more open with a banquet style room. The layout of the venue is a crucial part of developing the wedding floorplan.
FLOW AND MOVEMENT
Another critical element to consider when designing the wedding floorplan is the flow and ability for movement within the space! As mentioned above, the venue will definitely be the deciding factor when it comes to these elements. The flow that should be reflected in your floorplan should mirror the flow of the day! So starting with the ceremony space, moving into the cocktail hour space, then wrapping up with the reception space is most ideal. If at a venue that has different rooms for each event, it will be that much easier, although if there is one space requiring a room flip, having a flow that caters to guests exiting the ceremony into the cocktail space then back into the reception, will determine how the exact floorplan is structured! In light of movement, it’s important to consider enough space for yourself and your guests to not get too crowded, allowing enough room between tables, any installments, the bar, the DJ, dessert table, and the dance floor, so it feels open enough to move throughout!
FINAL TOUCHES
Last but not least, the actual assembly of the floorplan is where it all comes together. Be sure to factor in how many tables are needed, what size and kind of tables, how many chairs, the size and dimensions of an alter piece, the placement of the bar and the DJ, of course the dance floor, and any other specific details unique to your special day!
So, let’s recap! It’s important to remember the floorplan is a tool and resource that should reflect the chose venue space. From this foundation any details and specifics flow from it. Please utilize this tool so your coordinator can clearly assist you in turning your vision into reality!
